Tuesday, October 19th:

We've been driving all day. After leaving Peter, Sharon, Brendon, and Alisha, we started heading back home to Brisbane. We'll be bypassing Sydney and probably follow the eastern coastline up through New South Wales. That all depends, of course, on the weather. Some of the roads we planned to take are reportedly flooded from the sudden downpours. The sattelite photo shows a band of rain clouds covering the entire east coast, directly along our path. It's been raining, the roads are slippery, and the driving has been slow with not too much to see. And, with Percy now in the lead, we'll be taking the direct routes, and wont be stopping to see the sights. So I was surprised, while reading my book laying down across the back seat, to feel the car slow down and stop at the side of the road, shaking occasionally as a truck blew past. I picked my head up and saw nothing but purple and yellow everywhere. Matt had jumped out of the other car to take some photos. I did the same.

Patterson's Curse vs. Canola

We passed though Bathurst, home of the Australian equivilant of the Indy 500, the Bathurst 1000. This was the V8 race we were watching on TV in our cabin in Adalaide on the 10th. They close down the streets, and race through them. It's really popular here, like Nascar is down south, but relatively unheard of in the states. But, when one of the cars actually hit a kangaroo during the race, we figured that'd be the only bit that made world news, perpetuating the stereotype, as it were.
