Sunday, July 24th:
We made it safely to Easton, Pennsylvania around 11pm. We took shelter with the Rauch family: Richard, Sharon, Mark, and Cory. Oh, and Knuckles. We've known and been close to the Rauches since before Matt was born. Just a few years ago, they came to their senses, and left the real-estate nightmare we affectionately call, "Long Island." By chance, they had just gotten back from a trip of their own, having gone with Adrian, Tom, and Alisha to help in som "seldom worked territory" over in Scranton. So the house was already full of guests when we showed up, gladly accepting the couch and floor over the cow-covered seats of the Volkswagon. In the morning, Sharon made everyone breakfast, and Rich took me and Knuckles for a walk up the street to see the McMansions on his block.
Check out these retro 70's chairs in their Kingdom Hall! Perhaps "retro" isn't an appropriate term when they're originals... We were not the only out-of-state visitors today: This one sister, Pam, came all the way from Minnesota to hear the talk. She told us the incredible story of how bro. Nelson (formerly known only as "Prince") helped her find the truth. We all occasionally joke, and wonder if having celebrities in the organization is a distraction or not. But apparently, there is a large and growing group who would never have listened if Prince hadn't gotten them curious. Pam was a concert-goer, and got to talk to Prince at one of his shows. Soon after, she was studying with Larry Graham, who'd previously taught Prince. The music-industry connections extend here, to Easton PA, where the two brothers she credits with kick-starting her ministry live. Greg, who gave the talk today, and his friend Bill, are in the picture with Pam below.
