Tuesday, August 2nd:
Our short drive from Lebo to Wichita this morning was rather uneventful. Apart from the thousands of acres of highway-side grasslands, the Kansas landscape is pretty flat. We arrived at the Stover's place in Wichita early afternoon, and they took us out to a mexican restaurant for lunch. She offered us the use of her washing machine, which was convenient because I was down to my last change of clothes, and getting desparate. I tried to bring as many white T-shirts as I could find, in a vain attempt to ward off the incessant attack of UV. But, inevitably I brought one black T-shirt, and guess which one I saved for last... By some freak of chance, it happened to be a cloudy, overcast morning, so I got away with wearing the black one today. What I mean to say, is that every direction we turn, the Stovers have showered us with kindness and hospitality. Without even blinking, Tracy whipped us up an apple pie! They were just so nice to us. Matt met the Stover family several years ago when they were taking a tour of Walkill. Matt's friend Jonathan happened to be their tour guide, and since then, the friendship has launched several roadtrips and visits in both directions. Kyle is a drummer, so we helped him set up his drums and ended up jamming for hours in his bedroom. With the drumset tuned, and facing the corner of the small room, it resonated so well that it sounded like it was miked. Kyle and I tried to keep up, milking every last watt out of our amplifiers. Their daughter, Holly just got married, so after the bookstudy we got to see their new house.
