Thursday, August 4th:
We all woke up in the afternoon today, having spent the night catching up. Simon used to live fairly close-by back on Long Island before he met Jessica and moved out here to Houston. Jessica is awsome: She didn't have to work today, so she hung out with us all day, and even made us all breakfast with pancakes and potatos and bacon. We thought we were going to starve on this trip, but have had nothing but the best from everyone we've stayed with. I have to say, it's a little strange cutting across the country north to south the way we did. Three days ago, we were nearly touching Canada, listening to all the Wisconsiners' Norwegian inspired accents. It contrasted so strongly with the layed-back mid-western accents we heard in Kansas. And here we are today in the depths of Texas, a stone's throw from Mexico, with full-on Texan cowboy accents everywhere we go.
Last time I was here, they took me to this BBQ place like none I've ever seen, so I insisted that we take Matt there for dinner. He's been everywhere from NY to Kansas in the past, but has never seen a backyard barbeque place with a duck pond and a petting zoo until today!
Back home, often after a service meeting, some of the friends will head off to Carvel for ice cream. Well, down here after the meeting we all met up at Taco Cabana. We had a great argument with Simon's friend Chris about conspiracy theories, prophesies, and nacho chips. One of a handfull of very close friends of mine, Simon is unique. He has so many ideas and things he'd like to try, that when we get together we cant help but think them through and work out solutions for them. He's currently running a business selling T-shirts and snowboards and music and things. I've just finished a music project of my own and have started selling music online, so when we get talking, there's always a hundred new ideas and projects we want to start together.
