Saturday, August 13th:
We made it! We half expected there would be a huge crowd of people lining the streets of LA cheering for us as we drove past, across the finish line of our more than 6,000 mile journey. We imagined something like Lindbergh landing in Paris. I suppose that even though all we saw was the exit sign on I-10, there were enough people back home and around the world who've been running along side the car, cheering us on, to fill these streets...
As soon as we got settled at Matt's friend Dennis' place, we went out to Dodger Stadium to see a game! How much more American can you get? So we went all out and even got hot dogs and chocolate malts. The funny part was that the Dodgers were playing against the Mets - our home team from NY! Just for kicks, we sat outnumbered, cheering for NY, thouroughly enjoying the hissing and booing from the Dodger-fan-crowd around us. It was great! And of course the Mets won, besides... Afterwards, we went out to a gathering and met some of the friends from West LA. The gathering was really for two brothers who were visiting from Italy. It seems that everywhere we go, we never get to be the center of attention because there's always someone else with a slightly better story. But, I guess there's always one place where that wont be true...
